Reliable mobility for road sweepers in extreme application conditions

Holms Attachments AB develops and manufactures high-quality attachments for professional road maintenance service. The Swedish manufacturer’s machines are used worldwide by local authorities, road operators and service providers and must function reliably even under the most demanding conditions.

Sweepers are subjected to considerable loads during daily operation. Whether for street cleaning or maintenance work – the components used must withstand constant heavy impacts, vibrations and varying loads. At the same time, the machines move across a wide variety of surfaces and are continuously exposed to dirt, dust, moisture and significant temperature fluctuations. As part of the development of a new generation of sweepers, Holms was looking for a particularly robust roller solution that would meet these requirements in the long term. The standard design used previously was increasingly reaching its limits under the high dynamic loads. In particular, uneven surfaces, kerbs and intensive operating cycles led to increased wear and rising maintenance costs.

To meet the demanding application conditions, Blickle recommended the LS-VLE 257K heavy duty swivel castor from its standard range. The combination of the welded LS heavy duty fork and the proven VLE wheel proved to be the optimal solution for the high dynamic loads encountered in road maintenance. The robust welded steel construction of the LS fork with reinforced fork head offers high stability and operational reliability. The VLE wheel used features a super-elastic solid rubber tyre with an abrasion-resistant two-component tread. In addition to its high resistance to mechanical stress, it impresses with its puncture-proof and maintenance-free version. Furthermore, the tyre’s elasticity ensures effective shock absorption. This protects both the machines and the installed components whilst simultaneously improving handling characteristics in daily use.
